Last year having won promotion the 3rd XI were stunned when at first they were denied promotion and instead
replaced by Langford whom they beat twice in thier 2009 campaign. A united passionate voice from the club
saw the league reverse it's decission and the 3rd XI were duely placed into Millman 2.
A difficult start to the season with over 20 players unavailable it was a real achievement all 3 Blunham
teams had full XIs. the 3rd team took the scenic trip to Steppingly with all parties making it to the ground
and parking under one tree. Stand it skipper Cubby won the toss and elected to bowl, a strong
Steppingly line up punished the inexperienced young Blunham attack although Steppingly really
should have amassed many more. U14 player Deryn Fowler was the pick of the bowlers causing all sorts of problems
for the opositon and pulling off a stunning diving catch to put skipper Coverdale on a hatrick!
Gorgeous George also provided the Steppingly line up with problems as he replaced Blender who had
literally bowled through the pain barrier. Steppingly all out for 260, Blunham retired for tea well
aware of several things. 1 They would have to bat well 2. Bowling must improve 3. Rabbit holes make
fielding much more fun 4. Big Al is incredibly agile 5. No one would having a shower as a crease marker
and seed spreader were conveniently parked in the cubicle.
In response Blunham looked a tad ropey, both openers were dismissed for ducks but a partnership of 20+ from
Benni and Jordan built some foundations. Contributions from George, Jordan, Don and Deryn brought us just shy
of a 100 runs but still along way off from victory. Definitely alot of room for improvement but a game of
character for the young and old guns of the third XI who may just cause a few upsets as the season progresses.
