Once again those hardy fools at Blunham Cricket Club in Bedfordshire, stood out in a field, day and night to set a new Guinness World Record. BCC had previously set a mark of 59 hours and 33 minutes in 2008. The record was then subsequently beaten by two teams in Sydney, Australia, and then by a team in New Zealand with 100 hours.

Both teams played in two tone kits of Pink and Purple, colours that are associated with promoting awareness of Breast and Testicular cancer. 2 weeks prior to the match the teams made an appearance on Cricket AM on Sky 1 and Sky Sports 1, and there was a studio appearance by players in full kit on that date.

From 10:00 am Thursday 26th August to 7:00 pm Monday 30th August 2010, two teams of Cricket mad players played in all weathers to set a new official record for a continuous game of Cricket of 105 hours in total.
The reasons for doing this were two-fold:
1)Our Antipodean cousins need to be taught a lesson, so we planned to knock a big hole in the record and restore it to these shores!
2)We needed some additional funds to complete our clubhouse as well to raise money and awareness for a number of charities, principally Breast Cancer Research, Orchid (Testicular, Penile and Prostate Cancer research) and St. Johns Hospice, Moggerhanger.

All my very best wishes to Blunham Cricket Club as they attempt to set a new record of 105 playing hours over the bank holiday. It is a fantastic initiative and I wish them every success. Coming from a cricket fan, it is also a great way to spend the bank holiday!
Regards, Hugh.

From the U.K. Minister of Sport, Hugh Robertson MP
